Navigating the scene solo “definitely requires more energy and confidence,” says psychotherapist Joyce Marter, CEO of Chicago-based Urban Balance, a therapy clinic with seven area locations. Marter experienced a somewhat similar transition after a divorce in 2015. “It’s a little bit of feeling untethered,” she says. “You don’t have that fallback person who’s going to stand by your side.”
