As a behavioral healthcare speaker Joyce Marter transcends stigmas and shines a bright light on mental health with eye-opening and transformative presentations.
A renowned psychotherapist, high-powered industry leader, and national behavioral healthcare speaker with over 20 years of experience in mental health and addiction, Joyce Marter shares her expertise via:
Joyce has taken her passion and commitment for promoting overall mental health from a career as an entrepreneur and business owner, founding Urban Balance in 2004, a highly respected counseling practice that grew to over 100 therapists across three states during her thirteen-year tenure as CEO, into a career as an accomplished author, blogger, behavioral healthcare speaker and public figure. In hopes of bringing accessible counseling services to more people, Joyce successfully sold Urban Balance to a national company in 2017 and has stayed on as Founder/Spokesperson and maintains a limited practice in the Evanston, Illinois location. She is Chief Brand Ambassador of the parent company, Refresh Mental Health and is dedicated to the important work of addressing and eliminating the stigma surrounding mental health issues.
In her behavioral healthcare speaking, Joyce stresses that by taking care of our mental health, we are treating a normal aspect of the human condition. To minimize shame and provide support for individuals seeking to overcome their internal conflicts, Joyce travels around the country delivering talks, keynote speeches, and educational training related to mental health, addiction, relationship issues, and more. In every discussion, she seeks to reach her listeners in a way that is relatable and informative, calling on her own unique experiences to illuminate pathways to success for her audience.
In addition to being an accomplished behavioral healthcare speaker, Joyce is also an award-winning counselor and business leader. She was recently named the Institute at Northwestern University Distinguished Alumni of the Year, added to Crain’s Chicago Business, “40 Under 40” List, and given The Illinois Mental Health Counselors Association, President’s Award for Excellence in Leadership. She has also completed a 200-hour Registered Yoga Alliance Teacher Training Program and is an expert on mindfulness meditation and flow and how these practices can promote resilience and powerful life transformation.
